As viscerally satisfying as it is to watch such a consummate courtier get dragged in public, let’s all remember that Pruitt probably got retired for one reason and one reason alone: his name kept getting in the headlines, and Trump does not tolerate competition for the spotlight. And let’s also all remember that Pruitt leaving does not mean that we will get good environmental policy at the EPA. Pruitt’s replacement is a coal lobbyist and a former chief of staff to Senator James Inhofe, the worst climate-change denier in the Senate.
