Some free advice for candidates at the federal level

Polls show that roughly 70-80 percent of voters in each party define a single issue as the one of the most important motivators for their vote.

For Republicans, it’s “immigration,” and one assumes that includes locking babies in cages without their parents.

For Democrats, it’s health care. One assumes that, given overwhelming support shown in that group for Medicare for All, we know what they mean by that.

Federal candidates, if your opponent attacks Medicare for All or tries to deny they would strip preexisting coverage, you better blowtorch them down. They are bringing the fire with racism. The idea that no one should be too poor to live, and that these people will let your family go bankrupt and die if you get sick, is your fire. And your voters need to see you use it.

Don’t fuck this up. There is no Venn diagram worth drawing right now.
